When it comes to cult classics, The Nightmare Before Christmas is at the top of almost everyone's list! Especially when you come from the Disney fandom like me. From the whimsical characters to the gorgeous animation and brilliant storytelling, this movie is very special to a lot of people. And let’s not forget one of my favorite Disney experiences—the Haunted Mansion overlay during Halloween. There’s something so magical about stepping into Jack Skellington’s world - it’s always the highlight of any holiday Disneyland trip for me! I had the best time bringing the Nightmare Before Christmas Movie Night to life!
For this week’s Nightmare Before Christmas dinner, I knew I had to recreate the magic. I’ve done a variation of this meal before, and it became my most viral video ever. So, I wanted to bring it back in full force, inspired by the movie’s unforgettable characters and visual style. From the spooky Oogie Boogie punch to Sally’s patchwork cookies (which might be my favorite cookies that I have ever created), this meal was a hit from start to finish.
If you’re a fan of themed dinners, make sure to check out my previous blogs (link here) for even more movie-inspired meals. And, of course, all the full recipes are available in my Spooky Dinner and a Movie cookbook, which features 12 dinner nights inspired by 10 iconic Halloween movies. Each one includes printable menus and recipes for a cocktail, appetizer, main course, and dessert.
Oogie Boogie Punch: A Spooky Start
Every Fairytale Foodie Movie night calls for the perfect drink and for this Nightmare Before Christmas movie night, I brought the Boogie Man himself to life! This glowing green potion is dang near perfect Halloween Cocktail. And as you know - I love a good dry ice cocktail - not only does it give the drink an otherworldly fog, but it also adds a dramatic flair that never fails to impress.
For this drink, I used glowing coasters that I found at Amazon to give it that extra Oogie Boogie flair. Gummy worms crawling out of the glass add the perfect spooky detail. Just remember to handle the dry ice with care—it's for effect only and not to be ingested!
This punch was a huge hit with my followers when I first shared it, and for good reason. It is a showstopper, combined with its tangy, fruity flavor, it makes for an unforgettable start to The Nightmare Before Christmas Movie Night. If you’re looking for a fun and easy-to-make cocktail or mocktail, you can find the full recipe for this punch, along with 11 other dinner nights, in my Spooky Dinner and a Movie cookbook.
Man-Eating Wreath Salad: Too Cute to Eat
For the appetizer, I wanted something fresh but still on theme, and the Man-Eating Wreath Salad was the perfect fit. Inspired by the iconic wreath from the movie, this salad almost turned out too cute to eat—almost! With a mix of greens, cheese “teeth,” and bright yellow pepper “eyes,” this dish brought the feel of The Nightmare Before Christmas right to the table.
This wreath salad was a fun and creative way to kick off the meal. It’s fresh, easy to assemble, and visually ties right into the world of Halloween Town. I love how it instantly sets the tone for the rest of the night, bringing a little touch of the spooky magic that fans of the movie can’t get enough of.
Pumpkin King Pizza: A Tribute to Jack Skellington
For the main course, I wanted to do something fun and easily customizable. Usually, I would go all out and make everything from scratch, but I decided to try something new this time and grabbed a take-and-bake from Papa Murphy’s. He just recently moved to a new town, and this Pizza joint had such great reviews, I had to give them a try – plus it cut my work down by a ton! Their take-and-bake option gave me the flexibility to turn an ordinary pepperoni pizza into a spooky masterpiece.
I used pepperoni slices arranged to form Jack’s face and a touch of mozzarella to bring it all together, this pizza perfectly captures the essence of the Pumpkin King. It was a breeze to make which is always a major plus.
This Pumpkin King Pizza is definitely a must-try for any Nightmare Before Christmas movie night. Whether you're fancy and make it from scratch, or grab a take and bake to decorate yourself - I promise this pizza will be a hit!
Sally Patchwork Cookies:
For dessert, I knew I had to create something inspired by Sally, and these Sally Patchwork Cookies were the perfect choice. Just like Sally’s dress in the movie, these cookies are colorful, quirky, and full of character. The best part? They taste absolutely to die for! Honestly, these cookies turned out even better than I could’ve imagined—better than Crumbl, if you ask me.
Each cookie is a patchwork of vibrant colors, with lines drawn on to mimic Sally’s stitching. They’re soft, buttery, and have that perfect balance of sweetness that makes them irresistible. Decorating them was so much fun, and they were the perfect ending to our Nightmare Before Christmas movie night. They’re visually stunning, and everyone who tries them can’t help but be impressed by how they look and taste.
These cookies are definitely a recipe I’ll be repeating for future dinner parties—they were such a hit! You can find the full recipe, along with printable menus and even more spooky dessert ideas, in my Spooky Dinner and a Movie cookbook.
