When Scary Movie first came out, it was a major hit at my high school. It was one of those funny movies that poked fun at all the over the top scary movies that came out in the nighties and early 2000s. It was wildly popular during my high school and young adult years, and I couldn’t resist adding Scary Movie Night to my Spooky Dinner and a Movie series.

For this week’s Scary Movie dinner, I wanted to create a playful menu that matched the film’s over-the-top parody style. It ended up being the perfect “catch-all” for some of the spooky dishes I had been experimenting with—ones that didn’t quite fit with the more traditional horror films. Just like Scary Movie itself, this meal was a fun, eerie mix of dishes that brought both laughs and chills to the table.

We are currently in week 8 of counting the 10 best Halloween Dinner and a Movie Nights -- Here are the links to my previous blog posts. The Addams Family, Ghostbusters, Beetlejuice, Hocus Pocus, Coraline, Scream and Casper.

All recipes for my Halloween Dinner and a Movie Series can be found in the Spooky Dinner and a Movie Cookbook! This Digital Download includes all the recipes for 10 planned for you dinner and a movie nights - each containing a three course meal and a cocktail and mocktail for each! Killer Bubbly: A Bloody Good Start

No Fairytale Foodie Date Night would be complete without an over-the-top drink to kick things off.  Enter Killer Bubbly, this mimosa was bloody delicious - see what I did there? This bloody beverage, served with a syringe full of tropical goodness, really sets the mood for the night. This Halloween Cocktail is sure to be a major hit for any Scary Movie Night.

Super Scary Charcuterie: A Frighteningly Fun Spread

If you have been following me for a while - you know we love our themed charcuterie boards around here!! For the appetizer, I kept things spooky and playful with a Super Scary Charcuterie board. This board is loaded with eerie details like mozzarella “eyeballs” and a few chocolate-covered pretzel “cigarettes” left over from our Beetlejuice night, which added the perfect extra kooky touch. Charcuterie boards are always a hit, but this one was especially fun - t’s the perfect mix of creepy and delicious.

I added a mix of sharp cheddar cubes, ghost-shaped gouda slices, and savory meats like salami rosettes to give it that extra razz. To really bring the “scary” into Scary Movie Night, I made sure to place the mozzarella eyeballs strategically throughout the board, creating a spooky vibe that made this board almost difficult to eat. It set the perfect stage for the horror-comedy to come.

Heart-Stopping Ribs: A Main Course to Die For

The main course for our Scary Movie Night, I knew the dish had to be bold and a little over-the-top. Enter Heart-Stopping Ribs. These cooked to perfection ribs are tender, flavorful, and have a spooky presentation that works perfectly with the Scary Movie Night theme. I am a serious pork lover - and these ribs were a major hit with myself and my husband!! We couldn’t stop raving about how perfectly they turned out.

The ribs are rubbed with a mix of brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, and a touch of cayenne for just the right amount of heat. Once they’re slow-cooked to perfection, I brushed them with a sweet and spicy sauce that really sets the flavor off. But the real fun is in how you serve them, with ribs designed to look like they belong in a horror movie, complete with some creepy props.

Honestly, these ribs were such a standout. We couldn’t get enough, and they’ve quickly become a favorite dish whenever we’re in the mood for something indulgent and delicious.

Twice-as-Baked Potatoes: A Perfect Pairing

The perfect side dish for ribs? Potatoes, obviously! But for Scary Movie Night, we had to take them to the next level. Enter the Twice-as-Baked Potatoes. These aren’t your average baked potatoes, they’re loaded with sour cream, cheddar cheese, crispy bacon, and chives, then baked again for that perfect golden, melty finish.

I have been refining this recipe for over 20 years, and these potatoes have become my most requested dish by friends and family and are a true showstopper at every dinner party. The name is a playful nod to you know what in Scary Movie, but there’s nothing silly about how delicious they are! Cheesy, creamy, and crispy all in one bite, they paired perfectly with the Heart-Stopping Ribs, making this meal feel like the ultimate indulgence.

And if you’re looking to impress at your next gathering, you can find the full recipe for these Twice-as-Baked Potatoes in my Spooky Dinner and a Movie cookbook!

Bloody Cake Pops: A Sweet and Sinister Treat

To wrap up our Scary Movie Night, you know I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to make a bloody good dessert! These Bloody Cake Pop treats came out so cute, and fit the vibes perfectly.

Each cake pop starts with a moist white cake, crumbled and mixed with vanilla frosting before being dipped in white chocolate. But the real fun comes from the red candy “blood” drips that give these cake pops their spooky flair. The dripping effect made them almost too good to eat, almost! They were the perfect bite-sized treat to end the night.

Not only did they look incredible, but they also added a perfect spooky touch to our Scary Movie Date Night. If you’re planning your own scary movie marathon, these cake pops are a must.

Bringing Laughter and Chills to the Table

Our Scary Movie Night dramatic mix of over-the-top dishes, perfect for any Scary Movie Night. From the Killer Bubbly cocktail to the show stopping Heart-Stopping Ribs and my most requested Twice-as-Baked Potatoes, every part of this meal was designed to capture the ridiculousness of Scary Movie.

This night was a throwback to my younger years when the Scary Movie franchise ruled the horror-comedy scene. And, of course, dessert didn’t disappoint with those delicious Bloody Cake Pops that tied everything together.

If you’re ready to host your own Scary Movie Night, you can find the full recipes for these dishes, along with even more spooky-inspired meals, in my Spooky Dinner and a Movie cookbook. Whether you’re in it for the scares or the laughs, this menu is sure to make your night one to remember.
