The Ultimate Halloween Dinner & a Movie Night: The Addams Family

After nearly three years of unforgettable date nights, this Halloween Movie Night felt extra special — because it was our very first date night in our new home! My husband and I had been dreaming of this moment for years: no roommates, just us, our cat, and the whole house to ourselves. With spooky season right around the corner, we decided to kick things off with 10 spooky date nights.

The first on the list? A classic: The Addams Family. The combination of childhood nostalgia and the excitement of being in our own space made it the perfect movie to mark this milestone.

What made this date night even more awesome was that every dish on the menu was inspired by the creepy and cooky characters from the movie. With the luxury of a new kitchen and tons of counter space, I went all out and crafted an over the top experience. I’m so excited to share our night with you — and trust me, these recipes will make your next movie night one to remember!  Addams Family Dinner and a Movie MenuSetting the Stage: Transforming Our Living Room into a Movie Night Haven

Moving into our first home was a major accomplishment, and we knew we wanted to celebrate with something special. Our movie night setup had to be just right. After eight years of saving and living with family or roommates, we were finally able to invest in the things we’d always wished we’d had. My husband’s dream came true when he splurged on an 85" Samsung TV.  I thought he was insane when he bought a rather large TV when we first started dating - and I was a little on the fence about this monstrosity - but let me tell you - it really does make for the most fun movie nights. We literally feel like we are in a movie theater.

But, we didn’t stop there. Oh no…While shopping, they had a display for home theater sound systems, and I tried a couple out while Matt finalized his choice for the perfect TV. The sound on that JBL surround sound system absolutely blew us both away, and we bought it right there on the spot. The rich, immersive sound makes us feel like we are right in the middle of all the action.

And one last thing. My favorite thing…THE LIGHTS!! I had been obsessed with the Philips Hue Lights since the second I saw them on Instagram, and for me, they were the only non negotiable for our entertainment center. I didn’t care about the size of the TV, or how it sounded - I wanted to experience those lights! And girl, let me tell you - those lights are magical. They sync up with the sound and visuals on the screen, creating a most insane, colorful display that changes with every scene. For The Addams Family, it literally felt like we were being pulled right into their kooky world.  Guys, I don’t know if I am ever going to leave my living room!

How I whipped up a Spooky Addams Family Themed Menu

If you’ve been around here a while, you know that for us, no movie night is complete without a killer menu. I always try to make dishes inspired by the themes and characters of the movies themself – and with the quirky characters and spooky vibe of The Addams Family, there was so much to be inspired by. I decided to make every dish mysterious and spooky. Not only was the food delicious, but it added so much fun to our night.

Wednesday’s Poisonous Lemonade

We kicked things off with Wednesday’s Poisonous Lemonade — a spooky blackberry lemonade garnished with dry ice to create a foggy, potion-like effect. It was a nod to the famous lemonade stand scene in the movie, where Wednesday is seen selling ‘poisonous’ lemonade. The skull mug and dry ice added a sense of mystery and magic to the drink, setting the perfect tone for the night.

Gomez’s Green Salad

Next on the menu was Gomez’s Green Salad — a colorful and vibrant dish that combined cherry tomatoes, red onion, and mozzarella cheese shaped like tiny skulls. I’m a huge fan of silicone molds and have recently started experimenting with making shaped cheese for my various food projects. When I found these skull-shaped molds on amazon, I knew I had to incorporate them into this meal somehow – and voila – A hauntingly beautiful salad that tasted amazing.

Morticia’s Mortifying Meatballs

For the main course, I whipped up Morticia’s Mortifying Meatballs. These creepy , delicious meatballs were a mix of ground beef and pork and seasonings. I used mozzarella cheese and a black olive to make them resemble an eye. To continue on with the family theme – I plated the linguine to resemble Cousin Itt, using seaweed for his hat and glasses. He turned out so cute, and got a good laugh from my husband!

Thing’s Mixed Berry Hand Pies

For dessert, I just knew I needed to take the Hand Pie Dish literally and make some Thing inspired Mixed Berry Hand Pies because who doesn’t love a good Poptart? I traced my hand with a knife to make the eeriest hand pies you ever have seen but I promise - they were so dang good. The pies were flaky and bursting with berry goodness, which was the perfect sweet tooth to end an amazing movie night at home.

A Milestone Moment: Our First Movie Night in Our Own Home

This night was one for the books. I felt like it marked a major milestone in our lives. It was one of my favorite nights of my life if I am being totally honest. For years, we had been saving, dreaming, and planning, and while at many times I thought the day would never come, we finally have a home of our own!  It was my first time hosting a date night without roommates or family around, and it was truly magical. We transformed our living room into a cozy movie haven, and had the time of our lives.

Cooking for the first time in my first kitchen was kinda surreal.  I’ve always loved experimenting with recipes, but doing so in a space that was entirely mine was on a different level. I took pride in every dish, knowing that this was the beginning of many, many more magical movie nights in our new home. My husband, of course, was my always-willing and able taste tester. He takes his job seriously, and watching him enjoy each dish is my favorite thing.

As we sat down with our spooky-themed feast, sipping Wednesday’s Poisonous Lemonade and digging into Morticia’s Mortifying Meatballs, it hit me just how far we’d come. This was more than just a fun night — it was the beginning of new traditions in a home we had worked so hard to make our own.
